Those magnificent men…

ZK-VACWell, my brother and I are splashing out for our first ever airshow fly-in. After having to leave the Wings Over Wairarapa 2007 airshow early (a road accident, a road closure and a 4 hour, instead of 1.5 hour, drive home) we were both keen to get to another event.

Today (March 3rd) there is a great airshow at RNZAF Base Whenuapai (near Auckland) but that’s a little too far away and our sister is in town from overseas, so that wasn’t going to happen. But on Easter weekend, Classic Fighters 2007 is on at Omaka, near Blenheim. Normally this is even more hassle to get to as, although much closer, it involves traversing the Cook Strait which usually takes significant time and/or money.

So we’re taking the easy way! Vincent Aviation will be flying their Dash 8 directly to the airshow on the Saturday. So it’s a reasonable 8:30 departure from Wellington and then home in time for tea! It is reasonably expensive compared to the Wairarapa show, but it is world class and given the location, excellent value for money.
