Pre-Macworld

Yes, it’s that time again.  Apple-haters can stop reading now.

I just thought I’d go on record with a couple of things before all the news starts flowing at 6am NZ time tomorrow morning.

First, the iPhone Nano.  I’m in two minds as to whether I think such a device would be announced.  There has been a lot of discussion in cyberspace about this and most of it pooh-poohs the idea that such a device would be a good idea.  However one person I spoke to (my boss) has hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned.  That is, don’t think of a diminished-function (and obviously smaller) iPhone.  Think of an iPod (like a Nano), with a phone.  Just that.  Nothing else.  No applications, no GPS, possibly even no Bluetooth.

Second, I’d like to offer up a challenge to all those people who will be rushing to pass the news on to their readers.  I speak of places like TUAW, Mac Rumors, Engadget, Geekbrief TV and more.  I’ll be following ALL of you from early tomorrow morning, as will many people, I suspect.  Therefore there is no “winning” by being the first to get the info out.  I would rather you spend a minute or two to get the information right first time!

Last Macworld I recall seeing conflicting specifications of new products and, quite frankly, it wastes my time and annoys me a lot.  I know you’re all sitting in the same room hearing the same announcements and reading the same slides from the stage.  I’m not talking about minor details either.  These are fundamental figures like available capacity of different models.

It’s not rocket science.  More speed.  Less haste.  Please.
