Music to my ears
I thought hard about where I should post this. It seemed to fit with my podcast blog, but then I suspect more people read this than listen to my podcast, and that is still more than visit the podcast blog. So it is here for maximum coverage.
This morning I listened to the 52nd episode, and therefore 1 year anniversary episode, of This Reality Podcast. It was a wonderful distillation of the music he has played in his first year. It is long proven (to the two of us, Brennig & I) that we share similar tastes in music so I was expecting nothing less than the amazing selection of tracks from a diverse bunch of artists.
Anyway, I was checking out the web site for some detail when I came across an embedded video Brennig had included in the show notes. That’s when it struck me.
You see there is a lot of ‘mainstream’ music that I would love to share with my listeners but which I can’t due to the draconian music ‘industry’s lust for power and money. But by embedding YouTube videos in my blog(s) I can shift the emphasis (and potential lawsuits) to the uploader of the videos and still share the music. Brilliant. Not sure why I didn’t think of this before.
So I think I shall post further music to the podcast blog, but equally thought I should start here to hook you. For a start off, the video below is the original artist, though not my favourite rendition. What’s so special about this song?
Marvin Gaye’s “I heard it through the grapevine” was number one in the charts the day I was born.
