Another cyclist moment

This morning whilst walking up Lambton Quay, I spotted two cyclists – both mature women – approach a red traffic light, slow down, and then ’scoot’ the bikes forward through the intersection (a pedestrian crossing only) with a single foot to the ground about 4 or 5 times, prior to putting that foot back on the pedal after clearing the intersection.

I couldn’t resist. I removed one earbud to better gauge my volume and directed at the first of them to pass me “That doesn’t make it OK you know!”

The reason I mention these cyclists were mature women is that I believe this demographic would be the *least* likely to have a “don’t care” attitude to this sort of thing. A view borne out by the attempt, albeit a pathetic one, to “make it good”.

I’m struggling to figure out whether this is an improvement on the male and/or youngster approach of simply ignoring the rules. The latter could at least claim ignorance. Those ladies were very, very deliberate. The fact they both did it in unison suggests it’s not the first time either.

You decide…
